Is it me Professor Parrot, or is it my old world cousin, the African Grey?
Perhaps the Cockatoo? Maybe, just maybe, it’s the Amazona family!
But, then, what of the Smaller species like the Poicephalus and the Parakeets - Charming parrotalities, indeed?
I think we need a brief history lesson.
God in his infinite wisdom created planet earth; the sun, sky, sea and land –Forget the moon and stars, they’re a broken promise! Then in his image, he created the Psittacine so he could grace the sky and bestow his beauty upon the earth... Then he spoilt it by creating man!
Oh, well, you can’t have everything! What is done is done! We might forgive but we never forget - Little elephants indeed we are.
We must move on, and so education and conscious awareness are at the forefront as we speak.
A is for Agility – We are canny creatures and are very acrobatic indeed.
B is for Beauty – The definition of all things good.
C is for Creativity – We are natural artists and have the need to use our beaks.
D is for Danger – Households are dangerous, so we need protection and security, at all times.
E is for Enemy – We have more enemies than genuine friends
F is for Freedom – We were intended to grace the sky of boundless space and not to languish in a cage!
G is for Gain – Your gain can be our loss, which is often the way.
H is for Hope – We try so hard to have faith in the human race.
I is for Intelligence – We are able to perform on the emotional, sensitivity, and intellectual level of a three to four year old child.
J is for Junk food – You are what you eat. Our systems are designed to eat only healthy food and, oh dear, not sunflower seeds ….. tubs of margarine!
K is for Kaleidoscope – There is more to us than meets the eye.
L is for Longevity – Our life expectancy can be anything from 10 to 50 years or more.
M is for Miracle – God’s perfect creation.
N is for Nutrition – We will surely die before our time if our diet is not properly addressed . . . . . we need much more than basic seeds, please!
O is for Occupational therapy – vital to our mental and physical wellbeing.
P is for Patience – Something we are forced to learn, you must also learn it.
Q is for Quest – We are all on a journey, be patient and you’ll get there in the end
R is for Recreation – Just like you, we also need to do things we enjoy.
S is for Stimulation – Extremely important to our mental welfare
T is for Truth – Many of you have forgotten this, but you must never forget it; you remain responsible, forever, for what you have tamed.
U is for Understanding – Do unto others, as you would wish they would do unto you
V is for vocalisation – vital communication link; we shout you dance!
W is for wisdom – seek and you will find just how smart we are
X is for Xotic – Oh dear, spelling lessons for me!
Y is for Yesterday – All our troubles seemed so far away.
Z is for ZZZZZZz - We do get tired and need our rest . . . . . . . . Farewell!
